GroupWise EMEA Summit supports Viafrica PDF Print E-mail
Nowadays in most of the world for most people using a personal computer at work or at home is as common as using a phone. Actually, most of us probably spend  more time using a computer than using a phone. Of course traditional phone systems in Africa are not so common as elsewhere and also personal computers for private use are not so common yet. The good news is that with some help more and more people in Africa do get access to the World Wide Web, for example by sharing one or more personal computers within their community or school.

Viafrica is an organization (NGO) which helps to get all of this organized and with some help from us they can do even more. Therefore GroupWiseR, who organizes the GroupWise EMEA Summit 2006, has decided to become a sponsor of this good cause. After all, GroupWise is all about communication and access to the World Wide Web for communication is what Africa really needs. Therefore we will offer a percentage of our profits of our prestigious event to Viafrica. This way your participation in this event will be even more invaluable, for yourself and many others!

And the reason is simple of course: Africa will be one of the most  important areas of the world within a few decades, as long as we all help them to take the next step in their development process. And Viafrica is helping them to take these steps, in a simple but very effective way. Actually, the link between GroupWiseR and Viafrica is not accidental: one of the former employees of Novell Nederland, Niels Emmer, is now working in Moshi, in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro. And he's certainly the type of person  that we all should support: very involved and in-line with local customs and traditions. More info about Niels and some beautiful pictures on www.superniels.com.

CLASSworks -Computer Learning And Sustainable Support works- is Viafrica’s main programme. At this moment more than twenty schools in East Africa are connected to the CLASSworks programme. CLASSworks offers guidance to a school with all essential issues connected to the management and use of a computer room. This starts with the preparations of a suitable computer room, provides a training model for the teachers and the management of hard- and software and much more.
